Bettany Hughes

 Her current role is that of a visiting researcher fellow at King's College London. She was previously a teacher at Cambridge University's Institute of Continuing Education and an honorary fellow at Cardiff University. In 2012, she received the Norton Medlicott Award for services to history by the Historical Association. In 2009, she won the Naomi Sargant Special Award in recognition of excellence in educational broadcasting,and in 2012 she was honored with the Norton Medlicott Award in recognition of her contributions to history by the Historical Association, of which she is an honorary fellow. In 2010, she delivered the Hellenic Institute's Tenth Annual lecture "Ta Erotika The Things of Love", and in 2011, she delivered the Royal Television Society's Huw Wheldon Memorial Lecture, in which she said that the history of television is thriving and experiencing a new golden age. She was the chairperson of the 2011 Orange Prize for Fiction. It is the UK's only annual prize for writing exclusively by women. She is patron of The Iris Project, a charity which promotes the teaching of Latin and Greek in UK state schools She is an honorary patron of Classics For All, a national effort to bring classical languages and the study of ancient civilisations back into state schools. She is an advisor to the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation that aims to promote large-scale collaboration across East and West. On 3 March 2017 she was elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
