Yao Ming

Yao Ming (Chinese: Yao Ming born on 12 September, 1980) is a Chinese basketball executive and former professional athlete. He played for both the Shanghai Sharks (CBA), and the Houston Rockets (NBA). Yao was chosen to play for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game eight times and was named to the All-NBA Team five times. With a height of 2.29m (7 6 feet), Yao was the NBA's most athletic player. Yao was born in Shanghai and started playing in the NBA when he was a teenager. Yao played for the Sharks senior team for five years in the CBA. His final year saw him win an award. Yao was released from the Rockets after negotiating with both the CBA (the Sharks) and the Sharks. He was the first overall selection in the 2002 NBA draft. The Rockets were victorious in the opening round series of the postseason in 2009, which was their first win in playoff series since 1997. Yao was a part of the NBA playoffs four times more. Yao declared his retirement in July of 2011 due to ankle and foot injuries which forced him to be out for 250 games in his last six seasons.
