 Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality. Vogue has called her the "Queen of Camp", in reference to her influence on pop music as well as her zany fashion. Perry started her musical career in gospel when she was 16, released her debut album Katy Hudson under Red Hill Records in 2001. It was a commercial failure. She relocated to Los Angeles at 17 to pursue secular music and later , she adopted the stage name "Katy Perry" after her mother's maiden name. Columbia Records signed her to an album however she was subsequently dismissed before being signed to Capitol Records. She rose to stardom with One of the Boys (2008) which was a pop-rock single which featured the singles "I Kissed a Girl", and "Hot and Cold" and "Hot n Cold" respectively. Both made it to the top of the U.S. charts. Billboard Hot 100 respectively. Teenage Dream (2010), the disco-inspired pop album produced five U.S. number-one singles: "California Gurls", Teenage Dream", Firework", and "E.T. " and "Last Friday Night(T.G.I.F. )"--becoming only the second album of a woman to accomplish this. Teenage Dream:The Complete Confection (2012) was an reissue of the album. It was the source of "Part of Me" The U.S. number one single. The album, which was a celebration of empowerment, Prism (2013) included two U.S. number one singles "Roar" and "Dark Horse". Perry's music videos were the first to hit 1 billion views on Vevo. Witness is an electropop album with feminist themes, featured a political message and Smile (2020), was the result of her recent motherhood experience as well as her mental health journey. Then, she launched her Las Vegas concert residency entitled Play (2021-2099) and was praised by critics as well as commercial successes.
