Hempel Group

 Hempel was established by Jorgen Christian Hempel (1894 - 30 January, 1986) in the month of July 1915 when he founded Hempel's Marine Paints Ltd. (J.C. Hempel's Skibsfarve-Fabrik A/S) as a marine paint wholesaler. Hempel was Denmark's newest licensed wholesaler, only 21 years old. Hempel began his first paint mixing factory in 1917. It opened its first manufacturing facility in the United States in 1951, and then opened a new office in Hong Kong in 1963. The company began manufacturing decorative coatings in the Middle East in the 1960s. In 1963, it opened its first branch in Hong Kong. Hempel was the first company to concentrate on renewable energy, and also supplied coatings to the very first commercially-operated wind farm in 1980.J.C. Hempel was the company's chief executive for company for seventy-one years, died in 1986 at the age of 91. Hempel was an internationally renowned company with local management in 38 countries as of 2000. During the following decade, the company consolidated, buying out its partners in Croatia, China, Morocco and the Middle East
