She was also in a number of television movies such as The Thanksgiving Promise, Infidelity, as well as Day by Day in which she co-starred alongside Linda Kelsey, Douglas Sheehan and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In 1990, she part of six episodes on L.A. Law as Laker Girl Kimberly Dugan.Her first notable TV role was Alison Parker on Melrose Place from 1992 until 1997. In 1995, she starred in a TV movie made for television Beauty's Revenge which was also marketed in CD and DVD form as "Midwest Obsession". Between 1997 and 2000, she played Georgia Thomas on Ally McBeal. Thorne-Smith auditioned initially for the title role on the show, and it was went to Calista Flockhart. She was replaced by Ally McBeal in season 4, 2000.
