Bettany Hughes

 She is also a visiting research Fellow at King's College London. She was previously a teacher at the Cambridge University's Institute of Continuing Education [7and an honorary fellow at Cardiff University. She was awarded the Naomi Sargant Special Award for her work in broadcasting education in 2009, and also the Norton Medlicott Memorial Award for historical service from the Historical Association in 2012. In 2011, she was a speaker at the Royal Television Society's Huw Wilford Memorial Lecture. Her thesis was that the history of television is thriving and enjoying an exciting new golden time. She was awarded the chair of the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2011, which is the UK's sole annual fiction prize that is open to women. In 2011 she was also patron for The Iris Project, which encourages the teaching of Latin as well as Greek in UK public schools. Classics For All is her honorary patron. The campaign's goal is to restore classical civilisations and languages into public schools. She is an advisor for the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation that aims to encourage large-scale collaborations that bridge East and West.
