Yvonne De Carlo

 Yvonne De Carlo (September 1 1922 - January 8, 2007, 2007) was a Canadian-American dancer and actress. She was a Hollywood film star in the 1940s and 50s, made several recordings, and later, she appeared on television and stage.Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, De Carlo was enrolled by her mother in a local dance school at the age of three years old. At the beginning of the 1940s the couple had relocated to Los Angeles, where De Carlo participated in beauty contests and worked as a dancer in nightclubs. In 1941, she began to work in motion pictures that focused on short subjects. She sang "The Lamp of Memory" in a three-minute Soundies musical and in 1942 signed a three-year deal with Paramount Pictures, where she was given uncredited bit parts in major films. E. B. Derr was her first film role as an independent producer on James Fenimore cooper's adventure Deerslayer. In 1943, she got her first big performance in Salome"Where She Danced" (1945) which was a Universal Pictures release that Walter Wanger produced. Wanger described her as "the most beautiful girl" on the planet. "[1][2][3] The film's publicity and popularity made her an established star and she signed to a five-year deal with Universal. Universal was the main actor in its lavish Technicolor productions, such as Frontier Gal (1945), Song of Scheherazade (1947) as well as Slave Girl (1947). Cameramen voted her "Queen of Technicolor" three times in consecutive years. In a bid to avoid being typecast as exotic women She made her first major dramatic performance in two noir films, Brute Force (1947) and Criss Cross (1949).The first American film star to travel to Israel, De Carlo received further recognition as an actress for her performance in the British comedies Hotel Sahara (1951), The Captain's Paradise (1953) as well as Happy Ever After (1954). She was cast as Moses' Midianite wife Sephora by Cecil B. DeMille (1956). [5] For the role, she was awarded a Laurel Award as Topliner Supporting Actress. [6] She continued her successes with other notable starring parts, including Flame of the Islands (1956) as well as Death of a Scoundrel (1996), Band of Angels (1957), and The Sword and the Cross(1958) in which she played Mary Magdalene.
