 Venus Ebony Starr Williams, born on 17 June 1980 [3]) is an American professional tennis player. Formerly world No. Williams was an ex-world No. The Williams family, including her parents Oracene and Richard Williams coached her. Her reputation is widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players. When she became a professional in 1994, she made her first major final at the 1997 US Open. Williams took home the US Open and Wimbledon titles in 2000 and 2001. Williams also won the Olympic singles gold at Sydney Olympics 2000. She made her debut at the singles world No. The singles world No. 1 ranking on February 25 2002. This was her first win in the Open era and second after Althea Gibson. [8] She made it to four consecutive major finals between 2002 and 2003 however, she lost to Serena. After suffering from injuries, she won only one major title during 2003-2006. Williams returned to her best in 2007 taking home Wimbledon, a feat she repeated the next year. In 2010, she re-emerged to the world No. 2 position in singles, but then suffered again due to injuries. She started to slowly return to her best in 2014 and culminated in two big finals in Wimbledon and the Australian Open in 2017.
