Sigmund Freud (/froId/FROYD German pronunciation: ['zi?kmUnt ’fRoYt]), was an Austrian neurologist. He was born Sigismund Schlomo Freudon 6 May 1856 - 23 September 1939. Psychoanalysis is a clinical procedure that analyzes and treats pathologies through dialogue between a patient and psychoanalyst. Freud was the son of Galician Jewish parents, born in Freiberg in the Moravian Empire. He was doctor of medicine in 1881 at the University of Vienna. After completing his habilitation, Freud was appointed a Docent in Neuropathology. He was appointed an affiliated professor in 1902. Freud was born in Vienna and founded his Vienna clinic in 1886. In 1938, Freud left Austria to escape Nazi persecution. Freud passed away in exile in Britain in 1939. He had been trying to escape the Nazis' persecution. Freud's redefinition and inclusion of infantile sexual forms in his understanding of sexuality led him to develop the Oedipus complex, which is the central tenet of psychoanalytical theories. The study of dreams as wish-fulfillments gave him models for the study of the development of symptoms and the underlying mechanisms of suppression. Based on this, Freud elaborated his theory of the unconscious and proceeded to create an understanding of the psychic structure comprising id, super-ego, and ego. 8 Freud postulated the existence of libido, sexual energy that mental processes and structures are infected and that creates erotic attachments, and the death drive, the cause of repetitive obsession, hate, aggression and neurotic guilt. The works that Freud wrote later offer a broad interpretation as well as criticism of religion and culture.
