Hempel Group

 Jorgen Christian Hempel (1894 30 January, 1986) was the founder of Hempel's Marine Paints Ltd. which was an importer of marine paints. The company was Denmark's youngest licensed wholesaler at only 21 years old. Hempel began his first paint mixing facility in 1917. Together with the Technical University of Denmark (TUD), Hempel developed the antifouling coating, which protects the hulls of ships. Hempel expanded throughout the world in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1951, the company opened its first American manufacturing facility. The company also opened a Hong Kong office was opened in 1963. The company began producing decorative coatings for the Middle East in the 1960s. In 1963, the company established its first office in Hong Kong. Hempel was the first business to focus on renewable energy, and also supplied coatings to the first commercially operated wind farm in 1980.J.C. Hempel was the company's chief executive for company for seventy-one of those years and died in 1986, aged age 91. Hempel was an internationally renowned company with local management across 38 countries by 2000. The company consolidated its operations by purchasing its partners from China, Morocco, and the Middle East over the next 10 years.
