 Elon Reeves Musk, FRS (/’i:lan/EE-lon) is an investor and business magnate. He was born on June 28, 1971. He is the CEO, founder and chief engineer of SpaceX and is also the CEO and angel investor at SpaceX, as well as CEO and product architect at Tesla, Inc., founder of The Boring Company, and cofounder of OpenAI and Neuralink. He also serves as the head of the Musk Foundation, a philanthropic foundation. Musk is believed to have a net worth of $139 billion, mostly due to his ownership stakes in Tesla as well as SpaceX. [4][5] Musk was born in Pretoria in South Africa and attended the University of Pretoria briefly before making the move to Canada at the age of 18. Musk also co-founded X.com direct bank. X.com joined with Confinity in 2000 to form PayPal, which eBay bought in 2002 for $1.5 billion in 2002.With $175.8 million, Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, a spaceflight services company. He invested in Tesla Motors, Inc. the manufacturer of electric vehicles (now Tesla, Inc.). He was appointed its chairman and product architect and was appointed CEO in 2008. He was instrumental in the creation of SolarCity in 2006, which was later purchased by Tesla Energy. He was a co-founder of OpenAI in 2015, an research and development organization for artificial intelligence. In the next year, he founded Neuralink--a neurotechnology company developing brain-computer interfaces, as well as The Boring Company, a tunnel construction company. Musk has also proposed the hyperloop, a high-speed vactrain system. In 2022, his purchase of Twitter for $44 billion was completed.Musk has made controversial comments regarding technology and politics especially on Twitter and is a controversial persona. Musk has been criticized for making misleading and unscientific assertions, as well as disseminating false information about COVID-19. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a suit against Musk in 2018 for falsely claiming Musk had secured funds for private acquisitions of Tesla. Musk quit as chairman of Tesla and paid a $20 million fine in an agreement to settle with the SEC.
