She began her television career in the year 1995. In the following five years, she was on numerous episodes of Sliders and Diagnosis: Murder. In 2000, McLellan had her first major movie role, in the fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons.In 2001, McLellan joined the cast of the CBS procedural JAG with a regular part as Navy Petty Officer Jennifer Coates. For the final season, she was promoted to regular series. McLellan was later named Peter Krause's wife on the ABC soapy comedy drama series Dirty Sexy Money. After two seasons, the series was cancelled in 2009. McLellan later guest-starred on House and The Mentalist, and also had roles in Lifetime TV movies. McLellan first portrayed the female lead character in the CBS procedural drama NCIS: New Orleans in 2014. In July of 2016 it was announced that she was not returning to the show for season 3. 2. McLellan was the character White House Counsel Kendra Daynes in the second season of ABC's Designated Survivor in 2017.
