Vanilla Ice

Robert Matthew Van Winkle, popularly referred to as Vanilla Ice (born on October 31st, 1967), is an American actor, rapper, and television host. Ice was born in South Dallas and raised in Texas and South Florida. He released Hooked in 1989. In 1990 Ice signed a deal with SBK Records. This record label, part of the EMI Group's EMI Group, released a remix of To the Extreme in 1990. It included Ice's best-known songs, "Ice Ice Baby" and also an original cover of "Play That Funky Music". "Ice Ice Baby" was the first hip hop song to top the Billboard charts and has been acknowledged as having helped diversify hip-hop through exposing the genre to a mass audience.Although he was successful, Ice later regretted his agreements with SBK who had arranged for Ice to change his image to a more commercial look to appeal to the masses and had released fake biographical information with his knowledge. Live performances and appearances on the soundtrack album called Extremely Live, continued the popularity, however, an album released in the mainstream market, Mind Blowin', featured an image change which saw a massive decline in the popularity of Ice as well as his subsequent albums, Hard to swallow, Bi-Polar, and Platinum Underground, failed to achieve a high chart position or gain significant radio airplay. In 2009, Ice began hosting The Vanilla Ice Project on the DIY Network.
