 Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos aveiro GOIH ComM (Portuguese pronunciation: [kriS'tjanu R'nalduborn on February 5, 1985) is a Portuguese professional footballer who is a forward and captains the Portugal national team. He is currently a free agent. Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the best players ever. He has been awarded five Ballon d'Or Awards[note 3], and four European Golden Shoes. This is the highest number of European player to receive these awards. In his professional career, he has won 32 awards, including seven league titles as well as five UEFA Champions Leagues. He also took home the UEFA European Championship. Ronaldo holds the record for the most appearances (183), goals (140) and assists (42) in the Champions League, goals in the European Championship (14), international goals (118), and international appearances of a European (192). Ronaldo is the sole player to have more than 1,100 career professional appearances. He has also scored more than 800 career goals either for the club or for his country. He is the sole male player who has scored in five World Cup tournaments. His professional career as a senior started with Sporting CP at the age of 18 and he signed with Manchester United in 2003. In his debut season, he was crowned the FA Cup. He would later go to win three times in a row: the Premier League title, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. At age 23 he received the first Ballon d'Or. Ronaldo was subject to the most expensive transfer in association football when he made his debut in 2009 for Real Madrid. He won 15 awards, including two La Liga titles and two Copa del Reys. He also became the club's top goal-scorer. In 2013, 2014 and 2017, he won back-to-back Ballons d'Or. He was also runners-up in 2016 and 2017 and 2017. In 2018, he signed for Juventus as part of a deal that cost at least EUR100 million (PS88 million) which was the highest-priced move in the history of an Italian club, and also for a player who is over 30 years old. After having won two Serie A titles and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies, he returned to United in 2021. He left in 2022. Ronaldo made his international debut in 2003 for Portugal at the age 18 and has since won over 180 caps, making him Portugal's most-capped player. With over 100 goals in international competition, he is also the country's top scorer all time.
