 Lina Medina, a Peruvian woman who hails from Ticrapo District, gave birth to her daughter via Cesarean section in Lima at 5+1/2 years old. Gerardo was who was a 4.75 centimeter (18.7in) and 2.69 kg (5.9lb) baby, was born in Lima. Medina's parents believed that their daughter was suffering from an infected tumor. They brought her to the hospital, where they discovered that she had been pregnant for 7 months. She was five years old and six months old. The birth took place one and a half months later. The doctors interrogated her parents and found out that Medina was precocious in puberty, which means that hormones start to be activated earlier than usual. Medina's father, who was accused of abuse by a sexual partner was detained, but released as there was no evidence. The biological father of the child was not found.
