The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy of epic fantasy adventure films, directed and produced by Peter Jackson. It is inspired by the book The Lord of the Rings (J. R. R. Tolkien). The films have subtitles: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001, The Two Towers 2002 and The Return of the King 2003. The series was created and released by New Line Cinema in collaboration with WingNut Films. It is an international collaboration that spans New Zealand, America and New Zealand. The film features an ensemble cast which includes Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen and Liv Tyler and Viggo Mortensen. Cate Blanchett and John Rhys-Davies are the distributors and producers. Frodo continues his journey with Sam who is his loyal friend and dangerous Gollum. Aragorn is the heir in exile from the throne of Gondor and the Elf Legolas as well as the dwarf Gimli, Merry and Pippin team up to save Middle-earth's Free People and join them for the War of the Ring in attempt to deter Sauron.
