 Ronald Merle McNutt (33-year-old American) committed suicide on the night of August 31, 2020, after hitting himself on the face with the pump action shotgun. The incident occurred in the course of the Facebook Livestream that became viral on social media sites. The case was particularly notable because of the indignation displayed by some online users in response to McNutt's death. The video was shared on many other platforms and had amassed a large number of views before it was taken down. Video platform TikTok was as well slow to react to the clip, which appeared in many user feeds and constant re-uploads, leading to many users choosing to boycott the platform. The case also has raised awareness of suicide prevention as well as the obligation of care social media platforms owe to their users and their victims online with regards to the content they display as graphic.
