Born June 7 1959, Michael Richard Pence is a famous American politician. He was the 48th Vice-President of the United States between 2017 and 2021 under President Donald Trump. He is a member of the Republican Party and was previously the 50th governor of Indiana between 2013 and 2017. Pence was also an elected Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 until 2013.Pence was was raised in Columbus, Indiana, and is the younger brother of U.S. Representative Greg Pence. After graduating from Hanover College, he earned an law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He then entered private practice. He was unsuccessful in two attempts to be a congressman in 1988 and in 1990. Following his election, he was appointed to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000. From 1994 to 1999, he was an conservative radio and television host. In 2000 his election to the U.S. House of Representatives. He represented the 2nd District of Indiana (2001-2003) and the 6th District in Indiana (2003-2013). From 2005 until 2007 he chaired and was chairman of the Republican Study Committee as well as the House Republican Conference, the third-highest ranking in the House Republican leadership. Pence described himself to be a "principled conservative" who supports the Tea Party movement. He said he was a Christian, conservative, and Republican and was seeking the Republican nomination for the 2012 Indiana governor's race. In the most competitive race for governor in the last fifty years, he beat John R. Gregg, former speaker of Indiana House. Pence was inaugurated as governor in January of 2013. He implemented the largest tax cut in Indiana history, and pushed for more funding to private schools. Pence approved bills to limit abortions, including one that banned abortions when the reason behind the procedure was the fetus's gender, race, or disability. 6] When Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, it was met with fierce opposition from conservative members of his party as well as the business community as well as LGBT advocates. Pence was required to amend the RFRA to ban discrimination based upon gender identity, sexual orientation and other factors. This led to him being resigned from his gubernatorial reelection campaign. Pence was inaugurated as vice president of the United States on January 20 in 2017. In his role as vice president, Pence chaired the National Space Council since it was established in June of 2017. Pence was appointed vice president of the White House Coronavirus Task Force in February 2020. The task force was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump and Pence lost their bids to re-elect them in 2020, losing to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Kamala Hanson. The Trump campaign refused to concede and made false accusations of fraud in the election. They also filed more than 86 unsuccessful lawsuits in a variety of states. Despite Trump's urging to overturn the election results and his attack on the U.S. Capitol during the recount of Electoral College votes, Pence, in his capacity as President of the Senate has certified the Biden-Harris ticket as the winner in the presidential election. Pence has distanced itself from Trump by supporting candidates in various Republican primary elections that are against Trump's presidential candidate.
