Mike Pence

Pence successfully sought the Republican nomination for the 2012 Indiana governorship election after the term-limit Mitch Daniels retired. Pence defeated the previous Indiana House speaker John R. Gregg in the tightest to a gubernatorial race in fifty years.Upon becoming governor in January of 2013, Pence initiated the largest tax cut in Indiana's history . He also demanded more money for private education initiatives. Pence has signed legislation to curb abortions, such as one that prohibited abortions if the reason for the procedure was the fetus's gender, race, or disability. [6] After Pence was a signatory of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, he encountered fierce resistance from members of the moderate side of his party and the business community and LGBT advocates. The backlash against the RFRA caused Pence to amend the law to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity as well as other criteria.Pence pulled out of his gubernatorial campaign in July of 2016 in order to be the running mate of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who went to win the presidential election. On January 20, 2017, he was elected vice president of United States. In his role as vice president, Pence chaired the National Space Council since it was reestablished in June of 2017. Pence was elected chairperson of the White House Coronavirus Task Force in February 2020. The task force was created in reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States.
