A philanthropist is someone who is involved in philanthropy, donating their time, money, or reputation to causes that are charitable. Though any person can be a philanthropist, it's not always one who makes donations. Common accusations are that philanthropists support unworthy causes (e.g. investing in art rather than fighting hunger in the globe) and have self-interested motives (e.g. trying to avoid tax or seeking fame). A philanthropist can also be someone who takes care of someone else's needs instead of their own.
