Meyer was born Pauline Joyce Hutchison, south St. Louis, in 1943. Shortly after her birth, her father joined in the military to fight in World War II. In interviews, it was shown that her father was sexually assaulting her after returning. She has discussed the incident during her discussions with. She graduated from O'Fallon Technical High School, St. Louis, she got married to an auto salesman on a part-time basis just after completing her final year of high school. The marriage lasted five years. She says that her husband was cheating on her numerous times and that she convinced her husband to take her employer's pay checks. The funds were used to pay for an excursion to California. Meyer claims she returned the money years after. Meyer was a frequent visitor to bars in the area following her divorce, and she came across Dave Meyer, an engineer draftsman. They got married on January 7th, 1967.
