His professional life began as a Sears human resource manager. A friend of his invited him to go to a lecture given by John Earl Shoaff. Rohn was a distributor for Shoaff's direct-selling business AbundaVita in the year 1955. In the year 1957 Rohn left AbundaVita to join Nutri-Bio the direct-selling company. The company's founders as well as Shoaff started to guide Rohn. Rohn was able to build one of the top companies in the world through the mentorship. Rohn was invited by the Rotary Club to address the club following Nutri-Bio ended its operations in 1960. Then Rotarians from other clubs began to ask Rohn to present during their luncheons. In 1963, at the Beverly Hills Hotel, he presented his first public seminar. He then began presenting workshops across the country, telling his story and teaching his personal development philosophy.
