Christina Maria Aguilera (/aegI’le@r@/; Spanish pronunciation: [agi’lera]) is an American actor, singer, and television personality. Her birth date was December 18th, 1980. Famous for her vocal range and the ability to sustain high notes,she has been referred to as the "Voice of a Generation". Aguilera became a household name with her eponymous debut album and is acknowledged as having influenced the revival of teen-pop in the late 1990s and in the early 2000s. After her appearance on TV, Aguilera signed to RCA Records in 1998. Aguilera's debut album spawned three Billboard Hot 100 number one singles "Genie in the Bottle" as well as "What a Girl Wants" and earned her the Grammy Award as Best New Artist. The first Spanish album, Mi Reflejo (2000, her debut album of bubblegum pop) was released. It was atop the Billboard Top Latin Albums charts for 19 consecutive weeks. Aguilera was the creative director for her fourth studio album Stripped (2002). In the music video for its track "Dirrty", she sparked controversy over her sexuality. This led to the departure of her teen idol image. The singles "Beautiful", Fighter, and "Can't hold us down" were also popular.
