James Douglas Muir Leno (/lenoU born April 28, 1950)[1]is an American comedian, writer, actor and host of a television show. He was a stand-up comedian for a number of years prior to when he became host of NBC's The Tonight Show, where he remained until Conan O'Brien took over in 2009. Since September of 2009, Leno started a primetime talk show, The Jay Leno Show, which aired weeknights at 10:00 p.m. ET as well as on NBC. O'Brien's ratings had been declining prior to the Leno's debut on the primetime Tonight Show. In response to the offer by NBC to let Leno host a half-hour monologue before The Tonight Show to boost ratings, despite reports of a declining viewership, Leno returned to hosting the show on March 1st, 2010. 2] He hosted his last show of his second season on February 6 the 6th of February, 2014. He was inducted into The Television Hall of Fame that year. In 2014, he has hosted Jay Leno's Garage and 2021 return of You Bet Your Life.Leno writes a regular column in Popular Mechanics showcasing his car collection and offering advice on how to drive. He also writes occasionally "Motormouth" pieces for The Sunday Times.
