 The Black Mafia Family (BMF) was a drug trafficking and money laundering organization within the United States.In 1985, the Black Mafia Family was established in Southwest Detroit by Demetrius Flenory and Terry Flenory. By 2000 they had established their own cocaine distribution in the United States via their Los Angeles-based drug source as well as direct links to Mexican drug cartels. The Black Mafia Family operated from two major hubs: one in Atlanta for distribution run by Demetrius Flenory, and another in Los Angeles to handle incoming shipment from Mexico controlled by Terry Flenory.The Black Mafia Family under Demetrius Flenory first entered the hip-hop music business as BMF Entertainment in the early 2000s as a front organization to conceal the proceeds of cocaine sales and also to establish itself. BMF Entertainment was an promoter for a variety of prominent hip-hop artists, as well as a record label for Bleu DaVinci. Demetrius Flenory as well as the Black Mafia Family became famous in hip-hop popular culture for their extravagant lifestyles.In 2005, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) indicted members of the Black Mafia Family, ultimately securing convictions by targeting the Flenory brothers under the Continuing Criminal Enterprise Statute, and they were both sentenced to 30 years in prison. The prosecution stated that the Black Mafia Family earned more than $270 million from their activities.
