 Kimberly Denise Jones (born July 11, 1974),[2] better known as Lil' Kim is a popular American rapper and reality TV reality TV. She was born in Brooklyn, New York City and was raised in the city. After being expelled from her home, she spent a lot of her childhood in the streets. Jones began freestyle rapping during her teens, and was inspired by female hip-hop stars like Lady of Rage and MC Lyte. In 1994 she was introduced to fellow rapper The Notorious B.I.G., who invited her to join his group Junior M.A.F.I.A. ; their debut album, Conspiracy, generated two top 20 singles in the United States and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).Lil Kim's first studio album, Hard Core (1996) was certified double platinum, it has since sold over six million copies worldwide,[3] and produced three hit singles: "No Time", "Not Tonight (Ladies Night)" and "Crush on You". The album was the first female-oriented hip-hop album to be released in America in the year 1996. [4] Her next albums, The Notorious K.I.M. (2000) and La Bella Mafia (2003) were also certified platinum. 2001 saw Lil' Kim reach number one in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with the single "Lady Marmalade" (a remake of LaBelle the single from 1974) as well as Mya, Pink, and Christina Aguilera. Other noteworthy singles from this period include "The Jump Off" and "Magic Stick", the latter of which climbed to number two on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the second-highest-charting song by Kim as an lead artist.In 2005, Lil' Kim served a one-year prison sentence for lying to a juror about her close friends' involvement in a shooting that occurred four years earlier. During her incarceration, her fourth album, The Naked Truth, was released to a favourable review from the press. A reality series that covered the sentence, Lil' Kim: Countdown to Lockdown, aired on BET in 2006. She then released her first mixtape Ms. G.O.A.T. (2008). She then made her debut mixtape Ms. G.O.A.T. She continued to release and perform music through the decade of 2010. The album she released as her fifth studio album 9 came out in 2019.Lil' Kim is often referred to as the "Queen of Rap", as well as her alias "Queen Bee" by several media publications. The worldwide sales of her album total more than 15,000,000 albums and 30,000,000 singles. Her tracks "No Time", "Big Momma Thang", and "Not Tonight (Ladies Night)" were all included on Complex's list of the 50 Best Rap Songs By Women. [5] Lil Kim was ranked at 45 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music in 2012, which is the second-highest spot for a female hip-hop singer. In addition to her music, Lil' Kim is also famous for her bold and extravagant approach to fashion that was a source of inspiration for many artists.
